Tūhono Matariki Light Path

Experience the magic of Matariki through Tūhono – an immersive light trail by emerging Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei artist Arama Tamariki-Enua celebrating the stories, people and places of the downtown waterfront.

 

 

Tūhono means “to tie together” – a metaphoric waka that weaves through the heart of Tāmaki Makaurau, linking significant sites from Te Kōmititanga to Te Tōangaroa. The works reflect oceanic journeys of migration and the enduring presence of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei in this whenua.

 

 

When: Saturday 21 June – Wednesday 9 July

 

Where: From Te Kōmititanga (Commercial Bay), through Takutai Square at Britomart, ending at Māhuhu ki te Rangi Park in Te Tōangaroa

 

Cost: Kore utu | Free

Celebrate Te Mātahi o Te Tau and the rising of Matariki in the heart of Te Tōangaroa.


Enjoy a vibrant twilight market filled with local Māori kai trucks, mahi toi and more. Be among the first to experience Tūhono – a light path brought to life in celebration of Matariki.

NATIVE RĀKAU DAY

In collaboration with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei’s Pourewa Native Nursery and to celebrate the Matariki season of new beginnings, growth, and planting — come along to Māhuhu-ki-te-Rangi Park to collect your own native rākau to take home and nurture through the seasons and years to come.
